Training resources
With the aim of supporting not only ELDP grantees but also the general language documentation community, the ELDP team provides both written guides and video tutorials on a variety of topics relating to language documentation software, data management, metadata creation, and archiving. These resources are made available through the Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR) in the Depositor’s Resource Collection.
These materials are designed for learners at any stage of their career or project, from new documenters planning their first project to experienced documenters looking to make their workflows more efficient. These resources are available free-of-cost under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike (CC BY-SA) license, allowing users to share, adapt, translate, and/or re-publish the materials. If you are using the materials for your own projects or teaching, please get in touch as we would love to hear your feedback and learn more about how you are using them.
The materials are provided in a variety of formats to cater to different learner preferences: full PDF guides with screenshots, quick A4 checklist guides, and video tutorials. Where relevant, supplementary files like sample media and template files are provided to support independent learning. The materials are organized in a modular fashion, so that they can serve as stand-alone resources on a single topic or be combined with other modules.
We also have created a YouTube channel on Tutorials in Language Documentation and Archiving. The channel covers a video series on topics like how to create meta data in lameta, how to set ELAN and how to create a FleX dictionary project. Visit our channel here
